manufacturer of data security and archive storage solutions and high

that its XLS Enterprise Tape Libraries now feature single-key library
managed encryption to eliminate the risk of data loss while tapes are in
transit to disaster protection sites or other off-site locations.

XLS single-key library managed encryption (SKLME) operates transparently to all data protection and archive software applications. It is incorporated in X-Link, the web browser based remote library manager that enables administrators to configure, upgrade, and monitor XLS libraries locally through an intranet, or from anywhere in the world over the Internet.
"Encryption key management is an important feature in our tape libraries because encrypted tapes are completely unreadable without the unique key used to create them," said Larry Firestone, Qualstar president and CEO. "XLS library managed encryption eliminates data loss if tapes are lost en route between facilities or disaster protection sites."
First enabled in Qualstar's RLS-8350 and RLS-8500 expandable Rack Mount Tape Libraries, SKLME allows administrators to assign a unique key to secure the tapes in each library partition. SKLME equipped libraries use customer-specified keys to access the AES 256-bit encryption capability built into every LTO 5 tape drive. Tapes and their encryption keys are interchangeable between XLS and RLS libraries, enabling users to economically architect a secure, enterprise-wide data protection plan.
XLS Enterprise Tape Libraries deliver data protection and archive solutions to a range of markets including government agencies, broadcast and entertainment companies, research institutes, colleges and universities, and industrial customers. Cost effective XLS solutions span capacities from 240 terabytes to over 17 petabytes.
